Expiration Date

General Options, Glossary

The expiration date is the final day an options contract remains valid. After this date, the option either gets exercised (if in the money) or expires worthless (if out of the money). Expiration dates vary depending on the contract type—standard options typically expire on the third Friday of the month, while daily, weekly, and quarterly options have different expiration schedules. Traders must be mindful of expiration dates to manage positions effectively.
