What is the Stock Screener?

Screener

In this article, we’re going to cover one of the many screener tools Unusual Whales provides, the Stock Screener. This tool provides a stock feed of all tickers meeting the criteria set within your filters. There are numerous preset selections to choose from, or you can construct a filter tailored to your own wants and needs!

Let’s kick this off with some navigation. To get to the Stock Screener Feed from the Unusual Whales home page, we’ll click “Flow Data” then under the Market Data column, we’ll select Stock Screener.

The Stock Screener will display some preliminary data in the columns about any given stock, from the last trading price, % change on the day, daily volume vs. average volume, as well as the 52 week range and upcoming earnings dates.

You can display all of these columns at once, like so; or you can narrow the feed down to display select data; for example, you can have the Screener display only the volume in underlying stock, or by Net Premiums like this. The filters on the side allow you to narrow down the feed just as you can in the Options Flow Feed, with the options to set ranges of Option premium, open interest, and ranges within the underlying stock price.

There are a number of watchlists in the filters you can select from, here. Want to see the Stocks who have the most volume on the day? Click Most Active from the watchlist dropdown.

Now our feed shows the most active tickers by Options Volume, and automatically organizes by that column.

Want to see  which stocks have reached 52 week highs? Go ahead and click that category.

Now the Stock Screener will display only those tickers who have just hit 52 week highs, sorted in descending order from highest % change to lowest % change.

For each ticker in the feed for any given filter set, you can also expand to see historical information. Here we’ve used the top % change at the time of writing, $VIR. If you click the arrow to the left, the data expands to display day over day historical data, price data, volume, and options volume for the ticker.

You can also change the Format on all Screeners to various data presets and organization structures as well, such as Stock Volume, Net Premium, and Option Volume Skew.

Within every available watchlist, you can further filter them by Sector, Market cap, Volume, even by DTE ranges until their next earnings. As is the case with all feeds and screeners, the filtering is fully customizable to fit your needs.

Within the Screeners page, you can also cycle between different types of Screener. For example, there is a Sectors screener, where you can select from any Sector that you are interested in viewing. You can also cycle between your Stock and Options watchlists, and even view Performance and Seasonality within the Screener page.
