Bill Gates argues that climate change won't be fixed by requesting that people no longer eat meat

Per CNBC

Bill Gates has recently shared his thoughts on climate change, saying that it won't change by asking people to no longer eat meat. Gates shared that innovation for new and better solutions is needed instead of stopping meat consumption.

A 2021 study by the Nature Food journal found that worldwide food systems were responsible for 35% of total global anthropogenic greenhouse gasses. The study found that animal-based food was responsible for 57% of the total food systems' global gasses.

Plants were only responsible for 29% of food systems' global gasses. Gates gave his statements to Indian Express Group's Anant Goenka, the Indian media company's executive director.

In another statement on March 1, on the 5th Ramnath Goenka Memorial Lecture, Gates gave another statement regarding his ideal solution to climate change. He said most of the demand for certain materials comes from middle-income countries.

Gates: “I don’t think we can count on people living an impoverished lifestyle as a solution to climate... most of the demand for more energy, more cement, more steel is coming in from middle-income countries like India,”

The billionaire pinpointed hydrocarbons as a major reason behind energy intensity, sharing that global warming is happening very slowly. He shared how he expects the situation to deteriorate moving forward.

Gates: “It just gets worse and worse slightly every year. But it’s one of the hardest things to fix, because modern economies throughout the globe are based on energy intensity, and over 80% of those energies come from burning hydrocarbons,”

Gates has also expressed his support for "fake meat," saying it would be "very good." He shared that it would help avoid a terrible outcome and that it was an important innovation to help people that want to go vegan.

The billionaire has also maintained that he would continue to use his private jet to fight against climate change.
