CDC Emails Reveal It Had 'Significant Influence' on Facebook and Instagram Over COVID Moderation

Per Fox News

Twitter was revealed to not be the only company heavily influenced by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as new emails say it had "significant influence" over other social media platforms. The emails revealed that the agency influenced even Facebook and Instagram.

The news comes from a report made by Robby Soave, the senior editor for Reason, sharing his findings regarding the emails and the CDC's influence on Meta's policies. Soave shared how Twitter was not the only social platform that was influenced.

Soave: "The CDC had significant input on pandemic-era policies at Meta. The CDC was consulted frequently, at times daily, receiving constant updates about which topics were trending, and giving recommendations on what content to flag as false or misleading,"

The senior editor also shares how the emails revealed the significant influence that the CDC had when it came to content moderation. The news was also shared in a Twitter Files-style thread, with pictures of the emails obtained.

Soave even shared how Facebook was told by the CDC that there was a technical possibility of the virus being man-made. However, the health agency also noted that it was extremely unlikely.

The senior editor shared how the CDC wasn't the only one placing effort on the platform to ban alleged misinformation regarding vaccines or other COVID-related information.

Soave: "White House staffers castigated Meta for not deplatforming alleged misinformation fast enough. President Joe Biden himself accused Facebook of ‘killing people’ in July 2021,"

COVID-19 requirements have been easing up in the US with the Pentagon officially dropping a mandate that required troops to get vaccinated. It was stated that 8,400 troops were out of the military because they decided to decline the vaccine.

Around the end of November, just after Elon Musk acquired Twitter, the social media platform decided to drop its COVID misinformation policy.
