Elon Musk has said he is back

Elon Musk’s social media platform X experienced a widespread outage on Saturday that affected tens of thousands of users across the United States and other countries, though the service was largely restored later in the day, according to outage tracking site Downdetector.com.

At the peak of the disruption around 8:51 a.m. ET (1251 GMT), more than 25,800 users reported problems accessing the platform. By 12:09 p.m. ET, that number had dropped to under 650. Downdetector collects data from various sources, including user-submitted reports, to monitor service interruptions.

In a post on X following the outage, Musk wrote: “Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms. I must be super focused on X/xAI and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out.”

Users in countries such as Germany, Spain, France, India, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom also reported experiencing issues with X during the same timeframe, according to Downdetector data. X has not yet issued an official comment in response to the outage.

Musk, who has previously been active in U.S. politics—including spending nearly $300 million backing former President Donald Trump and other Republican candidates—said earlier this week that he plans to significantly scale back his political donations. The move suggests a renewed focus on his business interests, amid ongoing concerns from some investors about his time allocation.

As the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk previously promoted cost-cutting measures, including staff reductions and contract cancellations. However, his political stances have drawn criticism and led to protests against Tesla in both the U.S. and Europe. Tesla saw its first annual decline in vehicle deliveries last year, amid these broader reputational challenges.

In response to investor concerns about his time spent at Tesla, Musk said last month that he would reduce his commitment to DOGE activities to one or two days a week starting in May.
