Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has commented regarding Threads and how they didn't envision it to be the newest competitor of Twitter. He also tackled the topic of politics, clarifying as to whether they were welcome on the platform.
Mosseri gave a statement clarifying that although politics were welcome, they wanted the platform to focus on other things.
Mosseri: "Politics and hard news are important, I don't want to imply otherwise... But my take is, from a platform's perspective, any incremental engagement or revenue they might drive is not at all worth the scrutiny, negativity (let's be honest), or integrity risks that come along with them."
The Instagram head then clarified that they don't discourage or down-rank news about politics, but instead, they would treat them differently than they have treated politics in the past.
Mosseri: "We won't discourage or down-rank news or politics, we just won't court them the way we have in the past... If we are honest, we were too quick to promise too much to the industry on Facebook in the early 2010s, and it would be a mistake to repeat that..."
Recently, Elon Musk called Mark Zuckerberg a "cuck."
It was previously hinted that Meta would launch Instagram Threads on July 6, according to metadata on the App Store, and now that the app has launched, it already reached 100 million users faster than ChatGPT reached this number.
