In an interview with ABC on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested he would not dismiss the possibility of assassinating Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
When asked whether Israel would consider targeting Khamenei directly, Netanyahu responded, “We’re taking the actions that are required.”
Addressing reports that former U.S. President Donald Trump declined to support such a move out of concern that it might escalate tensions, Netanyahu pushed back: “It won’t escalate the conflict—it will put an end to it.”
He accused Iran of deliberately prolonging hostilities. “Iran wants a perpetual war. They’re pushing the world toward the edge of nuclear catastrophe,” he said. “What Israel is doing now is actually preventing further aggression. To stop this threat, we have to confront these forces head-on.”
Netanyahu compared Iranian nuclear scientists previously targeted by Israel to the Nazis, calling them “essentially Hitler’s nuclear team.” He emphasized that Israel’s efforts align with U.S. interests, saying it’s in America's benefit to support the fight against Iran’s leadership.
"First it's Tel Aviv—next it's New York," he warned, urging Americans to understand the stakes. “I get ‘America First.’ What I don’t get is ‘America Dead.’”
Netanyahu dismissed recent claims that Tehran was seeking to de-escalate the conflict. “I’m not surprised by their overtures. These so-called peace talks are a sham. They lie, they stall, and they deceive. We have strong intelligence showing they’re using these negotiations as cover to keep advancing their nuclear and missile programs,” he said.
When asked about American political figures like Tucker Carlson who oppose U.S. involvement in Israel’s war against Iran, Netanyahu was direct: “This isn’t just our battle. It’s yours, too. They’re chanting ‘Death to Israel’ and ‘Death to America.’ We just happen to be the first target. If they succeed here, the threat will come for you next,” he said, calling the idea of abandoning Israel in this fight “a dangerous denial of reality.”
Regarding the length of the ongoing war, Netanyahu said Israel would continue fighting as long as necessary to neutralize what he described as Iran’s “evil threats.”
