John Wick: Chapter 4 debuts to $73.5 million box office numbers, a new record for the franchise

Per USA Today

The fourth installation to the John Wick movie franchise just debuted, reaching new franchise box office record numbers at $73.5 million. This was almost five times its box office numbers when the original John Wick debuted in 2014.

The latest movie starring Keanu Reeves reportedly broke records of its previous movies, reaching box office numbers of $73.5 million. Here are the box office numbers for its previous movies.

  • John Wick - launched in 2014 - reached $14 million
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 - launched in 2017 - reached $30.4 million
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum- launched in 2019 - reached $56.8 million

The most recent movie of Keanu Reeves, previously more recognized as Neo from Matrix but is now also recognized as Mr. Wick, was simply called John Wick: Chapter 4 and is two hours and 49 minutes long.

Although it reached record box office numbers for the franchise, this is still short of how much it costs to film the latest assassin movie. The franchise reportedly spent at least $100 million to produce the movie, the most it spent in the series.

So far, the movie has gotten record praise from Rotten Tomatoes, reaching a score of 95% fresh. Although reaching new heights for the franchise, it is still nowhere near Disney's Avatar: The Way of the Water numbers.

By the end of 2022, Disney's Avatar: The Way of the Water was considered the highest-grossing film of 2022. By that time, it was able to hit $1.51 billion during the time when Disney dropped by 40.04% in the span of a full year.

Nearing the end of January, Avatar: The Way of the Water broke the $2 billion threshold, getting it closer to Titanic numbers at $2.19 billion. During the time of the report on Jan 23, the movie had already made $2.04.
