Kamala Harris is now using Coinbase, $COIN, to accept crypto campaign donations, though it seems more likely it is a PAC

Coinbase executive Alesia Haas may have made an error or been unclear when she stated that Vice President Kamala Harris is accepting crypto donations. At a Citigroup event on Wednesday, Haas was quoted as saying Harris "is accepting donations" and "using Coinbase Commerce to accept crypto for her campaign." However, a Coinbase spokesperson later clarified that Haas was actually referring to the Future Forward USA PAC, not Harris' campaign.

The spokesperson confirmed that the Future Forward PAC, which supports Harris, has started accepting crypto donations via Coinbase Commerce. While Harris' own campaign isn't taking crypto contributions directly, the involvement of Future Forward could suggest that Democrats are becoming more open to cryptocurrencies. Harris' rival, Donald Trump, has already attracted support from crypto enthusiasts and companies. The Biden administration, of which Harris is a part, has faced criticism from the crypto industry for being seen as anti-crypto.

Future Forward is a hybrid PAC, initially created for President Joe Biden, and it can contribute to the campaign or fund independent advertising not coordinated with the Harris campaign. Harris' campaign website currently does not feature crypto donation options, and Crypto4Harris, an advocacy group, told Fortune that it was unaware of any new developments related to crypto donations.
