The share of US adults that say they or someone within their household owns or leases an EV sits at just 8%

Per CBS News

The share of US adults that say they or at least someone within their household owns or leases an electric vehicle sits at just 8%. The same percentage said their household has a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

This comes as four in ten US adults said that they want their next vehicle to be an electric vehicle. The report noted that despite the $7,500 tax credit for an EV purchase, it would still be hard to persuade drivers to opt for gas-powered cars.

The report also highlighted whether the different factors behind why US adults didn't have EVs were major or minor.

Here are the reasons why they didn't have EVs and their rankings.

  • EV costs being too high - 60% said it was major, while 80% said it was minor
  • Not enough charging stations - around 50% said it was major, while almost 80% said it was minor.
  • Battery tech not yet ready - slightly over 40% said it was major, while around 70% said it was minor.
  • Charging time - slightly less than 40% said it was major, while less than 70% said it was minor.
  • Gas vehicle preference - 40% said it was major, while less than 70% said it was minor.
  • Not enough EV choices - over 20% said it was major, while less than 60% said it was minor.
  • EV ownership wasn't aligned with personal values - less than 20% said it was major, while almost 40% said it was minor.
  • Didn't want to be the first person they knew to have an EV - over 10% said it was major, while less than 30% said it was minor.

JPMorgan said electric flying vehicles are expected to become a $1 trillion market. This comes as Ford decided to halt production temporarily and stopped shipments of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks on Feb 14.

Ford also said it expects its 2023 EV unit loss to reach $3 billion.
