Local cop climbed a ladder to confront the Trump shooter attenpted assassin but assassin pointed a gun at him, and he retreated

Former President Donald Trump called for unity and resilience on Sunday after an attempt on his life introduced new uncertainty to an already tumultuous presidential campaign and raised critical questions about how a gunman was able to open fire from a rooftop near a Pennsylvania campaign rally.

Setting aside stark political differences during a delicate stretch of the race, President Joe Biden used a prime-time address on Sunday to condemn the violence and urge Americans that "we can't, we must not go down" the road of political violence.

"It's time to cool it down and we have a responsibility to do that," Biden said.

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the shooter. He was killed by the Secret Service. The victim killed in the shooting was identified as Corey Comperatore, 50, of Sarver, Pennsylvania. The two injured victims are 57-year-old David Dutch of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and 74-year-old James Copenhaver of Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Both men are listed in stable condition.

The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination of the former president, with the FBI taking the lead in the investigation. The FBI has not yet identified a motive for the assassination attempt.

Butler County, where the incident occurred, is located about 46 miles outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
