Majority of GOP voters support a TikTok ban, with only 33% of Democrats in favor

Per WSJ

A new report by WSJ shows that the majority of GOP voters were supportive of a TikTok ban. However, only 33% of Democrats were in favor, bringing the tally to nearly half of US voters supportive of the ban.

Per the report, the imposing of a TikTok ban was particularly supported by those that have not yet used the app. It was also reported that TikTok started to be questioned under former US President Donald J. Trump.

The banning of TikTok has long been discussed as the government is still divided on whether to impose an all-around ban on the Chinese-owned video app. So far, the White House is past the period where it gave agencies a 30-day implementation timeline for imposing a ban on TikTok for federal devices.

In Early 2023, it was reported that Senator Marco Rubio and Jake Sullivan met, and in their conversation, Senator Rubio "raised his worries" regarding the influence of Beijing on TikTok.

Senator Rubio also commented on Biden's administration's moves when it came to TikTok.

Senator Rubio: “It’s just not been a priority over there, unfortunately, and I hope it will become one with the new revelations,”

Senator Marco Rubio is a Florida Republican, while Jake Sullivan is the national security advisor for President Biden. Although Trump initially raised the questions regarding TikTok, it wasn't resolved during his term, and now, the Biden administration is starting to deal with the issue.

While there were successful measures to ban TikTok on federally owned devices, US Senator Josh Hawley wants to stretch the ban even further. He reportedly plans to introduce a bill that would place into effect a nationwide ban on TikTok.

Recently, it was also reported that the Biden administration wanted TikTok's Chinese owners to sell their stake in the video app, or else they could face a possible US ban.
