Nintendo Co. has announced a delay in pre-orders for its upcoming Switch 2 console, citing concerns over the potential effects of global tariffs recently implemented by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Originally scheduled to open for pre-orders on April 9, the company said Friday it will hold off “to evaluate the potential impact of tariffs and shifting market conditions.” The delay was first reported by The Verge and CNBC.
Despite the change in pre-order timing, Nintendo confirmed it is still planning to release the Switch 2 on June 5, with the U.S. retail price set at $450. A new pre-order date has not yet been determined.
The Kyoto-based gaming giant revealed the Switch 2 earlier this week—coinciding with Trump’s announcement of sweeping global tariffs, including a 24% duty on Japanese imports and a 46% tariff on goods from Vietnam, where Nintendo has been expanding its manufacturing operations.
Nintendo shares traded in the U.S. were down 3.6% in late morning trading on Friday.
