Recently, North Korea said it would launch its first-ever military spy satellite. The purpose of the said satellite would have been to monitor US drills. However, the launch ended in failure due to what was said to be an "accident."
The launch reportedly crashed into the sea, which resulted in South Korea's military having to pick up the wreck. This came as the location of the rocket's drop was in the western waters.
The Korean Central News Agency, the state media agency of North Korea, shared how there was an "accident" that happened during the launch. "Chollima-1" was the name given to the military reconnaissance satellite.
“The carrier rocket ‘Chollima-1’ fell to the West Sea of Korea after losing thrust due to the abnormal starting of the second-stage engine after the separation of the first stage during the normal flight,”
The launch took place at 6:27 AM local time and involved the satellite mounted to a rocket. The US National Security Council also gave a statement regarding the situation.
“The door has not closed on diplomacy but Pyongyang must immediately cease its provocative actions and instead choose engagement... The United States will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the American homeland and the defense of our Republic of Korea and Japanese allies,”
It was earlier reported that in 2022, North Korea-linked hackers were responsible for stealing $3.8 billion in crypto. It was highlighted that $775.7 million was stolen in October alone.
In other news, Taiwan reportedly wanted to buy 400 US anti-ship missiles in April as the country was dealing with the rising threat of China. They wanted to purchase the Harpoon AGM-84 anti-ship missiles that would sell for a contract of $1.17 billion, and production was expected to be completed by March 2029.
