There has been no confirmation yet from India in response to Pakistan’s claim that it has shot down five Indian aircraft and captured several Indian soldiers.
The last comparable conflict between the two nations occurred in 2019, when India launched strikes against what it described as terrorist camps following an attack it attributed to Pakistan. During that episode, Pakistan captured an Indian Air Force pilot and released him shortly afterward.
Pakistan has indicated a willingness to engage in dialogue with India, provided India refrains from what it calls “hostile acts.” India’s reaction to the reported downing of aircraft and the capture of soldiers will be critical in determining the next steps. Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions are already underway.
India, in a statement from its embassy in Washington, said that no Pakistani civilian, economic, or military targets were struck in the recent cross-border operation. According to the statement, the actions taken were “focused and precise,” aimed solely at known terror camps, and intended to avoid escalation.
Pakistan’s defense ministry also issued comments, suggesting that while many details remain unclear, both sides are expressing a desire to prevent further escalation.
