The Pakistani government has formally decided to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing what it described as his “decisive diplomatic intervention” and leadership during the recent escalation between Pakistan and India, according to an official statement released Friday.
Islamabad condemned what it called “unprovoked and unlawful” acts of aggression by India, which resulted in civilian casualties — including women, children, and elderly civilians. “This was a grave violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement added, as reported by News.Az citing international media sources.
In response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, described in the statement as a “calibrated and proportional military response” aimed at restoring deterrence while avoiding civilian casualties. The action, according to the government, was carried out in line with “the inherent right to self-defense.”
The intervention by President Trump — alongside active mediation efforts from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio — was credited with brokering a ceasefire on May 10, effectively averting a broader military confrontation between the two nuclear powers.
Trump’s “strategic foresight and exceptional statesmanship,” the statement said, played a critical role in de-escalating the crisis through sustained diplomatic outreach to both Islamabad and New Delhi.
