The creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, have a restaurant called Casa Bonita, which they bought. In the restaurant, they pay their servers $30, and because of this, they announced to restaurantgoers that they didn't need to give tips.
Casa Bonita was a 50-year-old restaurant that they bought and paid $40 million to renovate. Despite the owners' decision to eliminate tips while paying servers $30 hourly, there were still staff members that weren't happy about the decision.
Stefanie Jones, a Casa Bonita spokesperson, gave a statement to Axios regarding how they valued their employees and how they made adjustments to compensations.
Jones: "Casa Bonita values its employees... based on the recent beta testing of our one-of-a-kind restaurant, we have adjusted our compensation system for efficiency and fairness."
Recently, it was reported that 30% of Americans think that tipping has gotten out of control. This comes as 2/3rds of Americans actually had negative views when it came to tipping.
Toward the end of March, it was reported that the minimum expectation for tips increased from 15% to 20%. This came as 18% started to seem like the bare minimum tip for decent service.
