Tokyo Governor Urges Residents to Wear Turtlenecks to Save on Energy Bills

Per The Guardian

Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike said that turtleneck jumpers could help residents reduce energy consumption.

In August, Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, called for a push to revive the country's nuclear power industry as energy prices soar.

In 2011, the Fukushima nuclear disaster was triggered by a massive tsunami which led to the suspension of many reactors due to fear of safety. 13 municipalities were affected by the Fukushima accident, and 573 deaths have been certified as "disaster-related."

11 years later, only 10 of the 33 nuclear reactors in Japan are back in action. Not all of them operate on a year-round basis.

Japan still aims to be carbon neutral by 2050.
