President Trump on Tuesday once again promoted Nvidia’s $500 billion plan to build AI infrastructure in the United States, promising to fast-track permits for the chipmaker and other companies investing heavily in the country.
“This is very big and exciting news. All necessary permits will be expedited and quickly delivered to NVIDIA, as they will to all companies committing to be part of the Golden Age of America!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Nvidia’s pledge brings total investment commitments from major tech firms into U.S. AI infrastructure to over $1.6 trillion since Trump took office, as the industry navigates shifting trade policies while aiming to align with the administration.
Nvidia appears to be moving some of its manufacturing to the U.S. in part due to the uncertainty caused by Trump’s trade strategy. Fluctuating tariffs have affected imports of AI servers that rely on Nvidia’s high-performance GPUs (graphics processing units).
When asked about the impact of tariffs at Nvidia’s GTC event in March, CEO Jensen Huang said the company had been preparing to manufacture domestically. Huang reportedly attended a dinner at Mar-a-Lago last week, after which the administration decided not to move forward with additional restrictions on Nvidia’s chip exports to China.
The company’s announcement is one of several recent major U.S. investment plans from tech giants:
- In February, Apple committed to investing $500 billion to expand U.S. manufacturing over the next four years.
- TSMC, which produces the world’s most advanced chips mostly in Taiwan, has pledged $100 billion in spending over a similar period
