President Donald Trump announced Monday evening on social media what he described as a “Complete and Total” ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, expressing hope that the arrangement will become permanent. According to Trump, the ceasefire is scheduled to begin in approximately six hours.
“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED,” he wrote.
Trump added that the ceasefire would be implemented gradually over the next 24 hours. “Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL,” he said.
Neither Israel nor Iran has publicly confirmed the ceasefire. The White House has not responded to requests for further details.
Appearing on Fox News shortly after the announcement, Vice President JD Vance praised Trump’s efforts. “We were actually working on that just as I left the White House to come over here. So that’s good news, that the president was able to get that across the finish line,” Vance said.
Vance added that he saw a draft of the statement shortly before the broadcast. “It was a little bit different from what the president had showed me a couple of hours ago. But again, I knew that he was working the phones as I was on the way over here,” he said.
Vance also emphasized that Iran no longer has the capacity to build a nuclear weapon. “Iran is incapable of building a nuclear weapon with the equipment they have, because we destroyed it,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency issued a warning urging residents in Ramat Gan, a suburb of Tel Aviv, to evacuate. “Iran warns Israeli settlers to urgently evacuate the Ramat Gan region,” the outlet reported.
The warning followed an Israeli military advisory calling for evacuation of a district in Tehran.
