Trump Orders Strikes on Houthi Targets in Yemen, Warns of More to Come
U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a series of military strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, marking the most significant military action of his second term so far.
U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a series of military strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, marking the most significant military action of his second term so far.
According to Yemen’s Houthi-run Health Ministry, the strikes hit the capital, Sanaa, on Saturday, killing at least nine civilians and injuring nine others.
In a fiery statement posted on Truth Social, Trump issued a stark warning to the Iran-backed Houthis:
"Your time is up, and your attacks must stop, starting today. If they don’t, hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before."
The president said he had ordered the U.S. military to carry out a "decisive and powerful operation" against the Houthi forces, vowing to use “overwhelming lethal force” until U.S. objectives are met.
Trump accused the Houthis of threatening Red Sea shipping, linking their recent attacks to their support for Palestinians in Gaza following Israel’s military campaign there.
Trump also directed a strong warning to Iran, demanding an immediate halt to its support for the Houthis.
“If Iran threatens the U.S., America will hold you fully accountable, and we won’t be nice about it!”
Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV confirmed that U.S. airstrikes hit Sanaa on Saturday, with the group’s media office claiming that a "residential neighborhood" in the northern district of Shouab was targeted.
Residents of Eastern Geraf, a neighborhood in Shouab, described the impact of at least four airstrikes, saying they sent shockwaves through the area.
“The explosions were very strong,” said Abdallah al-Alffi, a resident. “It was like an earthquake.”
As tensions escalate, the world watches to see if the Houthis or Iran will respond, and whether Trump will follow through on his threats of further military action.
