U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar announced Monday that he has filed articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
In his statement, Rep. Thanedar — who serves Michigan’s 13th Congressional District — accused President Trump of “sweeping abuses of power, blatant violations of the Constitution, and acts of tyranny that endanger American democracy and the rule of law.”
The announcement comes just one day ahead of President Trump’s scheduled rally in Macomb County, intended to commemorate his first 100 days in office.

"Donald Trump has consistently proven himself unfit for the presidency and poses a clear and present threat to our nation’s Constitution and democratic institutions," Rep. Thanedar said in a press release. "His unlawful conduct has undermined the justice system, trampled on the separation of powers, and elevated personal ambition over public duty. We cannot stand by and allow further harm. Congress must act decisively."
The articles of impeachment introduced by Rep. Thanedar outline seven specific charges:
- Obstruction of Justice and Abuse of Executive Power: Alleging denial of due process, unlawful deportations, defiance of court orders, and politicization of the Department of Justice.
- Usurpation of Congressional Appropriations Authority: Accusing the administration of dismantling agencies created by Congress and unlawfully withholding federal funds.
- Abuse of Trade Powers and International Aggression: Citing economically harmful tariffs and threats of military action against sovereign nations.
- Violation of First Amendment Rights: Charging Trump with retaliation against critics, the press, and attorneys for exercising free speech rights protected by the Constitution.
- Creation of an Unlawful Office: Referring to the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”) and the unauthorized empowerment of Elon Musk to act in ways that allegedly violate constitutional norms.
- Bribery and Corruption: Including accusations of quashing criminal cases, soliciting foreign emoluments, and using settlements for personal and political advantage.
- Tyrannical Overreach: Alleging efforts to concentrate unchecked executive power, erode civil liberties, and disregard constitutional limits on presidential authority.
