Uber is planning a new way to diversify its offerings, and this summer, UK customers will be able to get in-app flight purchase options. This comes on top of the app's function as a ride-booking platform.
The company is looking to offer multiple forms of transportation, and the feature would allow Uber UK app users to book domestic or international flights directly. This comes as the company plans to offer seamless door-to-door travel solutions.
This comes as a result of the partnership between Uber and Hopper for them to allow users to book flights. The company will also use this as an additional revenue source, as it is set to earn a small commission for every sale.
Uber previously held the naming rights to a commuter boat service, the Thames Clippers, in London since 2020. The boat service was then rebranded as Uber Boat.
Uber UK general manager Andrew Brem gave a statement regarding their move and how it would help improve the booking process.
Brem: “Our new functionality will make the booking and managing of air travel simple and stress-free, with the booking process taking as little as one minute.”
Regarding travel, it was recently reported that even the rich could be thinking of cutting back on how much they're spending on their vacations. A recent survey found that high-end travelers said they didn't want to spend over $500 a night on a hotel.
Only 3% of the survey participants enjoyed spending $3,000 a night or more on a hotel. To be specific, 69% of participants said that the maximum they would spend on a hotel was $500.
In September 2009, it was announced that Southwest Airlines trained and hired 3,000 flight attendants, growing its total to 6,200 full-time employees. This tripled its 2008 hiring record despite the pandemic.
