Almost half of the opposite-sex marriages see women earning equal or more than their husbands

Per CNN

Women in opposite-sex marriages are starting to earn almost as much or more than their husbands. However, it was found that in 55% of those marriages, men still outearned women as the primary or sole breadwinners.

In marriages where the husband outearns their wife, the husband takes home a median of $96,000 compared to the $30,000 of their wife. However, there were also percentages of wives outearning their husbands.

In marriages where the wife was either the primary or sole breadwinner, the wife would take home a median of $88,000 compared to the $30,000 of their husbands. Pew Research Center was behind the study, and they gave a statement regarding the situation citing an imbalance.

“Even as financial contributions have become more equal in marriages, the way couples divide their time between paid work and home life remains unbalanced,”

The study also found that in 29% of marriages, men and women earned the same. The median that they would take home was $60,000 each. 16% of marriages saw wives as primary or sole breadwinners, per Bloomberg.

The study also commented on the situation, saying husbands spent more time on leisure compared to wives.

"Husbands in egalitarian marriages spend about 3.5 hours more per week on leisure activities than wives do. Wives in these marriages spend roughly 2 hours more per week on caregiving than husbands do and about 2.5 hours more on housework,”

In February, 57% of Americans said they couldn't afford a $1,000 emergency expense. On top of this, it was also noted that 35% of US adults carry credit card debt, which was an increase from 29% in 2022.

Some Americans are claiming Social Security benefits years before their full retirement age. This comes as fear rises of the benefits to be cut once the program runs out of cash.
