What is a 'Floor' trade?

When you think about a stock exchange, you may picture crowds of people in suits yelling at the top of their lungs. These were the floor traders of old, whose more modern counterparts have opted for the usage of electronic trading systems and thus generally do not physically trade on the exchange floor.
A floor trader trades exclusively for their own account. Trades made by these traders will be marked by the flag ‘Floor.’
