Amazon plans to scale investments in India with a budget of $12.7 billion for cloud infrastructure by 2030

Per Reuters

Amazon plans to further invest in India with a budget of $12.7 billion for cloud infrastructure. Specifically, this investment will be for the company's cloud computing unit.

This isn't the only investment Amazon has made into the country, as it has already poured $6.5 billion in e-commerce investments in India. However, the company only runs a marketplace due to a strict regulatory environment.

AWS said that the investment of its cloud computing unit into India would bring 100,000 full-time jobs annually. Amazon already has two data centers in India as of press time.

In 2016, Amazon started its initial data center in Mumbai, and in 2022, it launched another one in Hyderabad. This comes as the country expects its cloud service market to grow in a few years.

Per the IDC, a market intelligence provider, by 2026, India's public cloud services market could reach $13 billion. This comes as Amazon wasn't the only major company that decided to expand its cloud investments into India.

Other major companies include Microsoft and Alphabet Inc's Google, which have already increased its cloud investments in the country. This comes despite stricter oversight being pushed into Big Tech firms.

At the start of the year, Apple also decided to ramp up its presence in India as the company started posting jobs in the country for retail operations. This came as the company was to open its first-ever flagship store.

The expansion for Apple came as the company was trying to minimize its reliance on China regarding manufacturing. Apple wanted to diversify its manufacturing and presence, and India was among the countries it wanted to expand.

It was also recently reported that should ChatGPT's tech really replace software engineers, India would be the most impacted as it had over 5 million coders.
