alling Elon Musk “essentially a TRAIN WRECK,” President Donald Trump voiced disappointment Sunday over Musk’s decision to launch a new political party — and frustration that his once-loyal ally is now breaking ranks.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Musk, who had backed Trump in the past, announced the creation of the America Party on Saturday, citing his frustration with Republicans for passing last week’s massive spending bill. He claimed broad public support for the new effort.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk wrote. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Trump was unmoved, dismissing third parties as a recipe for “Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS.”
“The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS,” he said, “and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds! Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running ‘machine,’ that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country.”
Trump suggested Musk’s shift is rooted not in ideology but in business. He pointed to the new bill’s removal of the electric vehicle mandate as a likely cause.
“It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time. I have been strongly opposed to that from the very beginning,” Trump said.
He echoed a similar sentiment last month: “Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!”
Musk, who was once enlisted early in Trump’s presidency to help modernize government operations, has become sharply critical of the legislation, calling it a disaster after Trump signed it into law on Friday.
