Iran has threatened to unleash attacks by sleeper cells inside U.S. if it was attacked

Iran warned U.S. President Donald Trump several days ago that it could activate sleeper cells to launch attacks on American soil if the U.S. targeted the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities, according to a report by NBC News.

The warning reportedly reached Trump during the G7 summit in Canada last week—a meeting the president left early as tensions with Iran escalated. The threat came days before U.S. fighter jets carried out strikes on multiple Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday.

Neither the White House nor Iran’s Mission to the United Nations responded to NBC’s requests for comment. The report cites two U.S. officials and a source familiar with the intelligence.

Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said the administration is “looking very closely” at the possibility of an attack on the homeland.

A European diplomat also told NBC that both the U.S. and its allies believe Iran possesses the capability to target American and European citizens not only within the Middle East, but globally.
