Montana lawmakers have passed a bill blocking downloads of TikTok.
The bill, SB 419, makes it illegal for app stores to give users the option to download the app and also illegal for the company to operate within the state.
TikTok as well as Apple and Google, which operate mobile app stores, would face fines if they violate the ban, should the bill become law.
In December, a new bill by Sen. Marco Rubio, the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and a bipartisan pair of congressmen in the House, was just introduced. Numerous states have banned TikTok from government phones.
The legislation would US citizens from interacting with social media companies made by reported foreign adversaries, including China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela.
TikTok and its parent, ByteDance, are named directly.
