OnlyFans is now accessible in China after previously being blocked

OnlyFans, the subscription-based platform widely recognized for its sexually explicit content, has unexpectedly become accessible in China after being previously blocked by government censors.

Users on social media platform X first reported the site’s availability about a week ago, and CNN confirmed on Thursday that accounts could indeed be accessed from within China. According to GreatFire.org, an organization that monitors internet censorship in the country, OnlyFans was unblocked on November 29. Although the site has occasionally been accessible in China in the past, these instances have typically lasted for much shorter periods.

China’s government typically blocks thousands of websites, including those hosting pornography, which is illegal under its strict content regulations. Authorities maintain a zero-tolerance stance toward explicit material.

However, news of OnlyFans’ availability has sparked humor and speculation online. On the Chinese social media platform Weibo, users have joked that this development could offer new job opportunities to young graduates facing a tough employment market, hinting they could monetize their content on the platform.

“Isn’t this just another measure to create jobs?” quipped one user.
“This company gives creators 90% of the earnings! Isn’t it better than an actual job?” added another.

Youth unemployment in China remains a significant issue. In October, the unemployment rate for individuals aged 16-24, excluding students, was reported at 17.1%, down slightly from record highs observed earlier. Last year, the government halted youth unemployment data releases before reintroducing statistics under a revised methodology.

While OnlyFans is most commonly associated with adult content, it also hosts creators who share music, fitness tutorials, and other material. In 2022, the platform launched a separate, porn-free streaming service focused on sports and comedy programming.
