Ontario, Canada agrees to suspend 25% electricity surchange on the US

Trump Trade Adviser Announces Reversal of 50% Tariffs on Canadian Steel and Aluminum

Peter Navarro, an advisor to President Donald Trump, informed CNBC that Trump had reversed his decision to double the planned tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50%.

The new 25% tariffs on all imported steel and aluminum were set to take effect on Wednesday, impacting major suppliers like Canada and Mexico, along with other countries. The change came just six hours after Trump had initially announced his plan to increase the duties on Canadian metals.

Earlier, Trump had spoken to reporters outside the White House, indicating he was reconsidering the decision to raise tariffs on Canadian imports after Ontario Premier Doug Ford reversed a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to three U.S. states.

When asked if he was rethinking the tariff hike, Trump responded, “I’m looking at that, but probably so.”
