Former White House strategist Steve Bannon embraced President Trump’s ambitions for a third term, asserting that Trump will run and win in 2028 while dismissing any personal interest in a presidential bid.
“I firmly believe President Trump will run and win again in 2028, so I’ve already endorsed him,” Bannon told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo. “A leader like this comes along maybe once a century—if we’re lucky. We have him now.”
“He’s unstoppable, and I’m all in. I want to see him back in 2028,” he added during an appearance on CUOMO.
Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of a third presidential run, despite the 22nd Amendment prohibiting more than two terms.
Most recently, he hinted at the possibility during a White House St. Patrick’s Day event alongside Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
“Taoiseach, I just want to thank you again for being here. It’s an honor, and hopefully, we’ll be doing this at least three more times, OK?” Trump said. “At least three more times.”
“When I say ‘at least,’ the media loses their minds,” he added with a smirk. “So, thank you for being here.”
Plans in Motion
Cuomo pressed Bannon—who hasn’t completely ruled out a 2028 presidential bid of his own—on how he intends to secure another term for Trump. Bannon suggested that preparations are already underway.
“We’re working on it. I think we’ll have a couple of options,” he said Tuesday. “Let’s just say that. We’ll see how ‘term limit’ is defined.”
Bannon also reflected on Trump’s 2020 defeat to Joe Biden, calling Trump’s return to the White House in 2024 “the longest of long shots.” But he said Trump overcame the odds, winning the GOP primary and ultimately defeating former Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
“And we had to organize, drive that victory, and start laying the groundwork for policy,” Bannon said, referencing Project 2025 and the America First Policy Institute. “All these think tanks have been building the policies you’re seeing now—what we call ‘flood the zone’ or ‘Days of Thunder.’”
“This has been years in the making,” he continued. “So, as for Trump 2028, we’ve faced greater odds before. We’re working on a lot behind the scenes. We’re not ready to talk about it publicly yet, but in a few months, I think we will be.”
