Walz visited Wisconsin for a campaign event in support of Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Susan Crawford. The event took place in Eau Claire, within Rep. Derrick Van Orden's (R-WI) district. The outcome of this election will determine whether the state's highest court has a liberal or conservative majority.
Crawford is running against Brad Schimel, who has received campaign contributions from PACs backed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This connection became a central theme of Crawford's latest campaign ad, prompting Walz to comment on Tesla during the event.
"Some of you might know this: There's that little stock app on the iPhone. I added Tesla to it for a little boost during the day. It's at 225 and dropping," Walz remarked, referencing the company's stock price. "If you own one, we're not blaming you. You can take some dental floss, pull off the Tesla logo, you know, just saying."
Tesla's stock has fallen 40% over the past year, having peaked at over $428 per share before President Donald Trump took office in January.
During the town hall-style event, Walz took questions from the audience and described his current efforts as "the most unsatisfying 'I Told You So' tour in the history of politics."
Rep. Van Orden later accused Walz of excluding Trump supporters from the event on Crawford's behalf. Van Orden has represented the district since 2022, succeeding Democrat Ron Kind, but the seat remains highly contested.
"I thought 'everyone' was welcome?" Van Orden wrote on X.
