U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday called on people living in Tehran to evacuate the city, echoing warnings from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has launched a large-scale assault on Iran.
“Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump posted on his Truth Social account during the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada.
Trump offered no further details. Tehran, Iran’s capital, is home to nearly 10 million people.
The call comes as Israel intensifies its military operations inside Iran, claiming the offensive is meant to dismantle the Islamic Republic’s disputed nuclear program.
Earlier, the Israeli military advised residents in a Tehran district to leave the area—a strategy reminiscent of its actions in Gaza, where the majority of Palestinians have been displaced since the October 7, 2023 attacks.
While Trump has consistently avoided confirming whether the U.S. will join in Israeli military efforts, he stated the U.S. was not part of the initial strikes.
Speaking to reporters at the G7 summit, which concludes Tuesday, Trump said: “As soon as I leave here, we’re going to be doing something. But I have to leave here.”
