The Kremlin's foreign ministry spokeswoman has labeled Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington on Friday as a "total diplomatic failure for Kyiv."
Maria Zakharova claimed the Ukrainian president is "obsessed" with prolonging the conflict and reiterated Moscow’s objectives of Ukraine’s "demilitarization" and the annexation of all Russian-occupied territories.
"With his outrageously rude behavior during his stay in Washington, Zelensky has once again proven himself to be the greatest threat to the international community—an irresponsible instigator of a major war," Zakharova stated.
"The sooner Kyiv and certain European capitals recognize this, the closer we will be to a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis."
Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin has yet to make any official remarks regarding the Oval Office meeting.
Zelensky Calls for Stronger U.S. Support
Posting on X, Zelensky urged the U.S. to "stand more firmly" with Ukraine, stating he is prepared to sign a minerals agreement with President Donald Trump but emphasizing the need for concrete security guarantees.
His statement follows Friday’s tense Oval Office meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance, during which heated exchanges took place.
Trump later admitted that the discussion "didn't go exactly great" and accused Zelensky of overplaying his position despite having a "weak set of cards."
Zelensky’s European Tour Continues
Following his U.S. visit, Zelensky has landed in London and is en route to Downing Street for talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He is also set to meet with European leaders at a summit on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine rages on, with Russian drone attacks injuring civilians in the city of Kharkiv.
