Do I need to do anything? Will my commands stop working?
You don't need to do anything, the OpenBB Bots will be updated automatically on Tue, 24 Jun 2025 after market close. There might be a temporary downtime for commands while the platforms propagate the bot changes. After the conversion the bot will offer a set of new commands. Lesser used OpenBB bot functionalities and commands will be dropped to reduce clutter.
What do I lose?
No longer supported functionalities are:
- Automatic per user alerts
- Web based features:
- Individual Watchlist
- Server command auto-posting
- Server billboard
- OBB bot commands with low overall usage
What are the benefits of this change for me?
You keep the most used command functionalities and get access to lots of new commands as well as per server automatic notifications on various topics. This move also opens the door for future integrations with Unusual Whales' extensive suite of market data tools and community features. Some of those are:
- Access to new exciting commands, such as /market_tide to chart the market wide options activity, /netflow to track individual option activity and many more.
- Many commands offer extensive interactions to increase versatility and customizability. Use less commands for more information!
- Automatic server notifications for several topics, like News, Updates on trading halts, regular updates on up to 10 tickers of choice during market hours
Is the bot still free?
Yes, the core functionality of the bot remains available just as before. Like with OpenBB, for Discord there are some reasonably priced premium tiers offering exclusive functionalities:
- Individual Premium Sub:
- Access to the Premium Discord Bot and it's commands, offering exclusive commands, interactions and live data for all commands
- Access to the premium exclusive notifications via the offical Unusual Whales discord server
- Server Premium Sub:
- Access to all premium commands, interactions and live data for all members on your Discord Server via the Unusual Whales Premium Bot
- Access to premium exclusive notifications on your Discord Server
How do I find old functionality on the updated bot?
Below you can find existing mappings for old OpenBB commands. Additionally with Discord and Telegram bots, you can use the command /map and enter the name of an old OpenBB bot command to get the name of the new alternative command to help you orientate with the new bot.
What is this Unusual Whales Premium Bot mentioned on this page?
Unusual Whales uses two separate bots to serve Free Users and Premium Users. This allows better load distribution and stability for both tiers. Both bots use the same configuration, so if you upgrade and replace the Free Bot with the Premium Bot in your Discord server, you don't need to re-do your configuration, as it will be retained.
What about the Telegram Bot?
The Telegram bot will be converted, too. Currently there will only be a free version of the commands and functionalities available for Telegram offering most of what the Discord Bot offers. We are working on extending the Telegram bot with access to the premium data and functionalities via additional subscription tiers and hope to bring that live in the near future,
