Options Greeks measure how options prices change relative to various factors: Delta (underlying price movement), Gamma (rate of Delta change), Theta (time decay), Vega (volatility changes), and Rho (interest rate changes). Understanding Greeks transforms options trading from gambling into risk management. A Greeks calculator shows real-time values as markets move, helping you understand your exposure and make informed adjustments to positions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Delta in options trading?
Delta measures how much an option's price changes when the underlying stock moves $1. Call options have positive Delta (0 to 1), put options have negative Delta (0 to -1). A 0.50 Delta call moves approximately $0.50 for every $1 the stock moves up. Delta also approximates the probability the option expires in-the-money.
Why does Gamma matter for options traders?
Gamma measures how fast your Delta changes as the stock moves. High Gamma means your directional exposure (Delta) accelerates quickly with stock movement, creating both opportunity and risk. Gamma is highest for at-the-money options near expiration, which is why 0DTE (zero days to expiration) trading is so volatile and risky.
How fast does Theta decay eat away option value?
Theta shows daily time decay in dollar terms. An option with -$0.10 Theta loses approximately $10 in value overnight (100 shares/contract × $0.10). Theta decay accelerates as expiration approaches, particularly in the final 30 days. This is why selling options (collecting Theta) can be profitable, while buying options requires overcoming time decay.
What is Vega and when does it matter most?
Vega measures how much an option's price changes when implied volatility shifts 1%. High Vega means your position is very sensitive to volatility changes, which can hurt if you bought options and volatility drops, or help if you sold options and volatility increases. Vega is highest for at-the-money options with longer expirations. Earnings announcements and market events cause significant Vega impact.
