Fear of Layoffs for Americans is Getting Close to Pandemic-Lockdown Levels

A New York Feds survey in October showed that 43% of participants expect a higher unemployment rate a year from now. This increased from 39.1% in September.

In April 2020, when lockdowns happened, the survey found 47.5% of participants expected a higher jobless rate. The unemployment rate of October 2022 was 3.7% compared to a surge of 14.7% during April 2020.

The New York Fed survey said the average chance of finding a new job rose to 58%.
