Many New Yorkers could soon receive inflation relief checks worth up to $400, as part of a deal reached in the state budget, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.

Last week, Hochul confirmed that these payments would be issued following a budget agreement. Approximately 8.2 million residents statewide — including 3.5 million in New York City — are eligible for the rebate, provided they filed taxes for the most recent year.
The amount each person receives will depend on several factors, including income level and filing status.
Here’s a breakdown of the expected payment amounts:
- Single filers earning up to $75,000: $200
- Single filers earning between $75,000 and $150,000: $150
- Married couples earning up to $150,000: $400
- Married couples earning between $150,000 and $300,000: $300
Officials noted that the state budget is still being finalized, so there’s no confirmed date for when the checks will be sent. The budget deal also includes additional measures, such as a boost to the child tax credit, a ban on cellphones in schools, and other initiatives.
