Amazon, $AMZN, Alexa has told users the 2020 presidential election was 'stolen by a massive amount of election fraud,' per WaPo.
A Washington Post investigation revealed that smart devices, when questioned about the legitimacy of the election, provided answers based on unverified information, claiming electoral fraud had occurred.
For instance, Alexa stated that the election was "stolen by a massive amount of election fraud" while referencing Rumble, a right-wing video streaming platform. Amazon did not clarify why the devices were relying on information from unverified sources to respond to user queries.
In a separate incident, Alexa cited Substack, mentioning that the election was "notorious for many incidents of irregularities and indications pointing to electoral fraud taking place in major metro centers."
Amazon asserts that they collaborate with "reliable sources" like Reuters, Ballotpedia, and RealClearPolitics for information.
According to reports, the device's responses allegedly changed once the issue was brought to Amazon's attention.
Amazon spokeswoman Lauren Raemhild stated, "These responses were errors that were delivered a small number of times, and quickly fixed when brought to our attention. We continually audit and improve the systems we have in place for detecting and blocking inaccurate content."
Polling data consistently indicates that a significant portion of Republican voters, influenced by former President Donald Trump, remain skeptical of the legitimacy of President Joe Biden's 2020 victory.
An August CNN poll found that 69% of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters continue to doubt the legitimacy of Biden's win, up from 63% earlier in the year. Among registered voters who cast their ballots for Trump in 2020, the skepticism was even higher, with 75% expressing doubts about the integrity of the last election.
