The 13-year-olds of America are scoring the lowest in decades on math and reading scores. This came from the nation's report card federal test results.
Specifically, math scores dropped by their largest margin ever recorded. The article reported that this was also due to the pandemic learning setbacks.
Mathnasium Sherman Oacks' Barry Weiss gave a statement regarding the alarming news.
Weiss: "Most parents have absolutely no idea how far behind their kids are... It isn't like they're just behind in fractions or they're just behind the multiplication... It's just they missed a year or two of school."
From 2020 to 2023, the 13-year-olds of America saw a 9-point drop in their average math scores. Education Trust president and CEO Denise Forte gave a statement regarding how students wanted better, but they face great risk.
Forte: "Students want to succeed, attend college, start a rewarding career and reach their full academic potential... But they can't if they continue to lose precious ground."
Recently, a report shared how secondary education could be more valuable as 83% of colleges don't provide a minimum economic return.
