Apple announced at its WWDC 2024 keynote on Monday that it is partnering with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri.
ChatGPT will be available for free in iOS 18 later this year without requiring an account, and Apple assures that user queries won’t be logged. Additionally, the popular chatbot will be incorporated into Apple’s systemwide writing tools.
This long-awaited partnership comes as Apple aims to enhance its AI capabilities to match those of other major tech companies. Apple had been negotiating with both Google and OpenAI to integrate their AI technology into its operating systems, ultimately choosing OpenAI.
There has been speculation that the recent launch of OpenAI’s GPT-4o — a voice assistant noted for its uncanny resemblance to Scarlett Johansson’s voice in the movie "Her" — was intended to demonstrate how OpenAI’s technology could improve Siri.
In addition to its partnership with OpenAI, Apple unveiled a range of new AI features under the banner of Apple Intelligence.
