Apple has acquired artificial intelligence startup DarwinAI and has integrated dozens of the company's employees into its AI division

Apple has acquired artificial intelligence (AI) startup DarwinAI and has integrated dozens of the company's employees into its AI division, as reported by Bloomberg News on Thursday.
The iPhone maker completed the acquisition earlier this year, according to the report, which cited sources familiar with the matter. The report did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
Both Apple and DarwinAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.
Apple has been more deliberate in its adoption of generative AI, which can produce responses similar to those of humans to written prompts, compared to competitors such as Microsoft and Alphabet's Google, which have incorporated such technologies into their products.
As part of the acquisition, Alexander Wong, an AI researcher at the University of Waterloo who played a role in building DarwinAI's business, has joined Apple as a director in its AI group, the report noted.
DarwinAI has developed AI technology for visually inspecting components during the manufacturing process and serves clients across various industries, Bloomberg reported.
