Apple's worldwide marketing chief Greg Joswiak was asked at the recent Wall Street Journal's Tech Live event whether they will abide by the European Union's new mandate regarding the USB-C standard.

Joswiak said "obviously" they will be complying and that they have "no choice." The marketing chief argued that the iPhone's switch from the Lightning to the USB-C would produce a lot of e-waste.

When asked about their timeline, Joswiak said the law indicated that the law needed all phones and tablets to use USB-C by Autumn 2024. Apple's marketing chief gave no specifications on when the switch would happen.

If Apple switched its iPhones to portless wireless charging, this would still be theoretically allowed.
