President Joe Biden announced on Monday the allocation of $42.5 billion from the bipartisan infrastructure law, which he supported, to expand access to high-speed internet throughout the United States. The funding will be distributed to all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories, with the goal of strengthening internet access, particularly for the 7% of people residing in underserved areas. The White House stated that their objective is to connect all residents and small businesses to reliable and affordable high-speed internet by 2030.
During his address from the White House, Biden compared this investment to the historic effort led by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to bring electricity to rural America, emphasizing its significance. He stated that in today's economy, internet access is as crucial as other essential services such as electricity and water, and it is necessary for ensuring equal opportunities for all.
To promote their administration's investments across the nation, including the 2021 infrastructure law and other legislation aimed at improving the lives of Americans, President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris plan to launch a three-week campaign. Their goal is to highlight the tangible benefits these initiatives are already bringing to the country.
