A recent survey by Future Forum revealed how desk job workers are experiencing higher burnout rates compared to peak pandemic levels. Now, over 40% of desk job workers are reporting a feeling of being burned out.
Salesforce Inc.'s Slack Technologies reportedly backed up the research and looked at the different reasons businesses are experiencing burnout. It was revealed that women and young workers were particularly the ones experiencing burnout.
Here are the different reasons why desk job workers are experiencing burnout.
- Economic uncertainty
- Fear of job cuts
- The rising pressure of return-to-office
In early 2022, the global rate of burnout sat at 42% and at the end of the year, only 41% of people in the US said they experienced it. Brian Elliot, a Slack executive who oversees the research at Future Forum, gave a statement regarding the importance of flexibility.
Elliot: "All the benefits of flexibility are about how you give people focused time, rather than sweating how many days of week they are in... Flexibility also improves a company's culture, and every time I tell executives this, it surprises them."
It was reported that, on average, large employers have increased app usage from 195 in 2022 to 211 apps altogether. Another study by the Harvard Business Review found that employees of big companies had to switch between apps and websites 1,200 on a daily basis.
A FED study in September 2022 found that for every 1% increase in remote work, housing prices also increase by 0.9%. This shift was reportedly responsible of the 60% markup experienced during the pandemic.
In October of 2022, over 50% of CEOs considered dropping their worker count, giving the least priority to remote workers. This study included the thoughts and opinions of 1,3000 CEOs from some of the largest businesses in the world.
