Donald Trump says he wants US in charge of crypto before China, and teases another NFT launch

Donald Trump says he wants US in charge of crypto before China, and teases another NFT launch, per the Block.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his support for the cryptocurrency industry, stating that it is beneficial for the country and that the U.S. should take the lead in the global crypto race before China or any other nation, according to a Bloomberg report published on Tuesday.

“If I disregard it, another country, most likely China — which is quite advanced in this area — will take it up,” Trump said in the Bloomberg interview. “So you have to consider it — my priority is what is best for the country.”

The Republican presidential nominee asserted that crypto is “not going away” and announced plans to release another set of NFTs. “I did it three times [and] I’m going to do another one because the people want me to do another one,” Trump said. He had previously created trading card-themed NFTs that offered buyers various perks, such as a piece of his suit or tie, or admission to a dinner event with him.

Trump remarked that the U.S. crypto industry has a “good foundation” despite being in its early stages and mentioned that he has become acquainted with “top-tier” industry professionals.

Pro-crypto stance
Trump, who previously held unfavorable views toward crypto, has recently begun endorsing the local industry. In May, his campaign started accepting donations in cryptocurrencies, raising $3 million in the last quarter, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Republican nominee also promised to support bitcoin miners if he returns to the White House.
