Drones attack an US military base in Southern Syria, per CNN.
A military installation located in southern Syria, where U.S. troops have been stationed to provide training as part of a broader campaign against the Islamic State group, came under attack by drones on Thursday, according to two U.S. officials who spoke with The Associated Press.
The officials, requesting anonymity to discuss the incident prior to an official announcement, reported that one drone had been successfully downed, but another had caused minor injuries.
These drone attacks follow a series of similar strikes on U.S. and coalition bases in Iraq in recent days. These actions have occurred amid heightened regional tensions following an explosion at a Gaza hospital, which resulted in a significant loss of life.
The al-Tanf garrison in southeastern Syria is strategically located and often serves as a route for Iranian-backed militants to transport weapons to Hezbollah.
Additionally, Syrian opposition activists claimed on Thursday that a drone attack targeted an oil facility in eastern Syria, housing American troops. Omar Abu Layla, a European-based activist heading the Deir Ezzor 24 media outlet, reported that three explosive-laden drones struck the Conoco gas field in the eastern province of Deir el-Zour, bordering Iraq.
Rami Abdurrahman, from the opposition war monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in the UK, confirmed that five explosions were heard at the Conoco gas field.
