Elon Musk has a possible successor in mind for the position of Tesla CEO. Musk has been the CEO since 2008-2009 after co-founder Martin Eberhard was ousted.
A Tesla investor sued Tesla for Musk's $54 billion compensation plan for his work as CEO, claiming that Musk didn't need to remain at the company.
Tesla board member James Murdock was called to the stand twice to talk about Musk. In his prior depositions, Murdock said no successors were named, but recently, he said Musk suggested a potential successor, but no names were specified.
The rumor is that Tesla previously offered the CEO role to Herbert Diess, who decided to become the CEO of Volkswagen. Diess recently left Volkswagen and remains to have a friendly relationship with Musk. Diess hasn't announced his next project.
Other possible successors include:
- Zach Kirkhorn - Tesla CEO
- Drew Baglino - Senior Vice President of Powertrain and Energy Engineering
