Elon Musk is funding fertility, population research in Texas, with support to a new Population Wellbeing Initiative

Elon Musk, the CEO of the company that was formerly known as Twitter (now X), has apparently made a donation to a research project in Texas focused on fertility and population studies.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Musk, who has expressed his concerns about the potential collapse of the human population, contributed $10 million to the Population Wellbeing Initiative (PWI), which is based at the University of Texas at Austin. This donation was made through his philanthropic organization, the Musk Foundation.

While Musk had previously funded a two-day conference held by PWI in October of the prior year, his involvement was not initially disclosed by the organization.

The Population Wellbeing Initiative (PWI) is a collaborative effort between UT Austin's Population Research Center and economics department. The initiative's website describes it as a network of researchers focused on foundational work in areas like economics, demography, and social welfare evaluation. The PWI specifically examines subjects related to fertility, parenting, future population and economic growth, as well as the welfare of infants and children.
